About Cheryl
I have served as the CEO of International Sports Federation for a little more than 30 years. For three decades, my life has revolved around sending people on international sports development and cultural exchange projects so, as the world shut down during the pandemic, my professional life came to a screeching halt! I needed a new hobby to get my mind off the devastating travel restrictions.
Along with the government pandemic relief, I also received a check from the Cherokee Nation. I remember looking at that check and thinking, "what could I do with this money to reconnect me to the land and honor my Cherokee heritage?" As a kid growing up in rural Oklahoma, I remember my dad had bees and it was interesting but I was too young to help back then. But, now it seemed like it could be a great hobby to keep my mind and spirit engaged during the hard days of the pandemic. It has been one of the best decisions of my life!
As with most things in my life, I don't do things half way. I dive in the deep end and that is what I have done with beekeeping. I started with three colonies, learned a lot of hard lessons, spent hours upon hours studying the amazing wonderful world of bees. I now have 13 colonies going strong and have even started grafting my own queens. And, I have realized that I thoroughly enjoy helping others learn about beekeeping so that is why I put up this website so I can have a central place for helpful things I have learned along the way.
